Commission rates

Broker commission is a percentage of the trade amount, which is the number of shares times the price. The rate gets smaller as the amount gets bigger.

  • Up to Rs 50,000: 0.36%
  • Rs 50,001 to Rs 5,00,000: 0.33%
  • Rs 5,00,001 to Rs 20,00,000: 0.31%
  • Rs 20,00,001 to Rs 1,00,00,000: 0.27%
  • Above Rs 1,00,00,000: 0.24%
  • Minimum commission: Rs 10

SEBON fee

SEBON is the Securities Board of Nepal, the market regulator. It charges 0.015% of the trade amount on both buys and sells.

DP charge

DP stands for Depository Participant, the bank or broker that keeps your demat account. When you sell, you pay a DP charge of Rs 25 for each stock you sell.

Capital gains tax

If you sell at a profit, there is also capital gains tax. For individuals it is 7.5% of the profit if you held the shares under a year, and 5% if you held them longer.

Buying vs selling

When you buy, fees are added to what you pay. When you sell, fees come out of what you receive. So your break-even price is a little above your buying price, even before any tax.

Small trades cost more

Because of the Rs 10 minimum and the flat Rs 25 DP charge, very small trades lose a bigger share to fees.

Selling one share of a Rs 542 stock pays Rs 10 in commission. That is almost 2% of the sale, before the DP charge.

A NEPSE example

Say you buy 100 shares of Nabil Bank (NABIL) at Rs 542, its closing price on 27 Oct 2026. The trade amount is Rs 54,200.

That falls in the 0.33% band, so commission is Rs 178.86. The SEBON fee at 0.015% is Rs 8.13. Your total cost is Rs 54,386.99, or about Rs 543.87 per share.

If you later sold the same 100 shares at Rs 542, you would pay the same Rs 178.86 commission and Rs 8.13 SEBON fee, plus the Rs 25 DP charge. You would receive Rs 53,988.01. Buying and selling at the same price would cost about Rs 399 in fees.

To cover all those fees, the 100 shares would need to sell at about Rs 546.01, around 0.74% above Rs 542, before any tax on the profit.
